AFSCME Power in Action Announces Endorsement of Justin Bibb for Mayor

Major union representing 4,000 Cleveland members backs Bibb campaign

PRESS RELEASE - Wednesday, September 29, 2021 - CLEVELAND, OH – The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Power in Action, announced today their endorsement of Justin Bibb for Mayor of Cleveland. The organization represents more than 4,000 workers in Cleveland including county, city and MetroHealth employees.

“It’s time for new leadership and a new direction for Cleveland that gives workers a voice and seat at the table. We believe Justin Bibb is that leader,” said Marquez Brown, Regional Director for AFSCME Ohio Council 8.

“He has a track record of bringing people together as a civic activist and business leader.”

“It’s a simple request,” he added. “For too long in Cleveland, we have not had leadership willing to work with workers. It’s time for that to change.”

Bibb pledged to put workers’ rights at the top of his agenda when elected and is confident that working with AFSCME he can build a coalition for change on day one at City Hall.

“Workers across the region deserve a mayor who is going to stand up and fight for them and serve as an active partner inside City Hall,” Bibb said. “I intend to work with AFSCME and other labor partners to deliver the change Cleveland desperately needs. I can’t do this alone. We have to do this together.”
